The Broken River visitor area has parking, toilets, picnic tables and a day-use area; the River walk can be used by wheelchair users, although assistance may be required. This is observation from the bank, not swimming with or handling wildlife.

Give the viewing platforms time. Watch the surface for ripples and brief appearances, keep voices down and do not crowd or pursue an animal. Queensland Parks also lists a 780-metre Rainforest Discovery circuit and longer walks nearby. The linked day tour describes some short walking on uneven ground, so do not assume that the park's accessible River walk makes every element of the tour accessible. Confirm with the operator if mobility matters.

Queensland Parks locates the Broken River walks about 80km west of Mackay. Its directions from Proserpine involve a long drive south before turning inland, then a winding, steep climb into Eungella. The listed Airlie Beach tour travels through sugar-cane country and the Pioneer Valley, stops at the Pinnacle Family Hotel for a pie, continues into the park and visits Broken River. This is not a short hop from Airlie for a single lookout. Check the current pickup and finish times, road time and actual river-viewing window before committing the day.

The listing describes a country-pub pie stop; read the live inclusions to see whether the meal you expect is covered and whether it is a snack or a full lunch. Bring water and a layer: the listing says the mountains can be cooler than the coast, and Queensland Parks recommends a raincoat and jumper because conditions change quickly. Its safety page also advises checking road conditions and park alerts before travel. If you are driving yourself, plan for the steep range road and avoid rushing back in darkness.

Early morning and late afternoon are sensible windows to consider for patient wildlife watching, but there is no appointment with a wild platypus. Do not interpret “common sightings” in promotional copy as a guarantee. Take binoculars if you have them and be prepared to enjoy the forest even if the water is quiet.
