Queensland Parks puts the Whitehaven day-use area about 21.6 nautical miles (40 km) by boat from Shute Harbour, and Tongue Point, the Hill Inlet end, about 26.5 nautical miles. Times below come from operator and listing pages; they shift with wind, tide and pickup stops.

From Airlie Beach
Airlie has the widest choice. Tourism Whitsundays says commercial tours, sailing trips and private charters leave from Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour. The main shapes:
Fast boat: least time travelling
Ocean Rafting says its crossing takes 1 to 1.5 hours depending on conditions, with pickup from most mainland hotels. Both Airlie options visit Hill Inlet. The ride is bumpy and the listing excludes pregnant guests and people with back problems.

Tourism Whitsundays says some scenic flights land at Whitehaven. On Hamilton Island, Hamilton Island Air runs a helicopter that lands on the beach for about 50 minutes and seaplanes that land on the water off the beach. From the mainland, a reseller lists an Air Whitsunday seaplane from Whitsunday Coast Airport with 1.5 hours on the sand. Getting there: common questions
Can you get to Whitehaven Beach without a tour?
Yes, by private or hired boat. Queensland Parks says anchoring is permitted off Whitehaven Beach at all tides, with the nearest public mooring at Tongue Bay. It also says to take weather and tidal influences into account when boating in the Whitsundays. There is no public ferry.
How long does it take to get to Whitehaven?
Sailing Whitsundays puts the boat trip from Airlie at about 33 km: roughly an hour on a fast boat and about two under sail. Big cruises with island pickups take longer.
Can you stay overnight?
There is no hotel. National park camping needs a permit, and camping transfers drop you off. The listing below is a one-way transfer and does not include the permit. See our Whitehaven camping guide.
