What does private actually buy?
A private day charter keeps the booked boat for your party and its operating crew. That can matter if friends want to talk without a crowd, a family needs to move at one pace, or someone would rather stay aboard while others snorkel. You still share public beaches and anchorages with other vessels. The master also has the final safety call on route and landing.

That is a useful baseline for questions, not a template for all private boats. Another charter might depart elsewhere, carry more or fewer people, serve different food or have a different cancellation rule. The term private alone tells you none of that. For a couple or a small party willing to follow a fixed itinerary, shared seats often avoid paying for unused boat capacity. Providence's day sail already includes a professional skipper, Hill Inlet and a snorkel stop, though lunch is an optional ticket. Lady Enid's adults-only day sail caps guests at 24 and includes meals. If your group does not need exclusive use, compare those experiences before seeking a charter quote.
Think in terms of the full day, not just the number on the booking screen. Divide a private whole-vessel quote by the number of people actually travelling, then compare with the shared option for your group. Account for meals, drinks, transfers, reef or park fees, equipment and actual time at your priority stop. Do not count capacity as passengers if your group will be smaller. A private charter may be worth the difference if it removes awkward logistics or lets you agree a slower pace with the skipper.

MiLady publishes a maximum of 12, but a different operator's 12 may mean different deck space, shade or seating. For a family group, ask how many can sit comfortably during the crossing, where bags go and how people board the tender. If someone will not snorkel, ask whether they can remain comfortably on board while others enter the water.
Route claims need the same attention. Whitehaven's southern beach and Hill Inlet lookout are different stops. A south-end cruise may never go to Hill Inlet; MiLady's current description includes Tongue Bay and the lookout. Check Whitehaven routes and the two ends of the beach. A private charter can sometimes discuss a preferred stop, but tide and conditions still govern access. Put the one stop you care about into the enquiry, rather than asking only for “Whitehaven”.

Can we change the route on the day?
Ask which stops are planned, which are negotiable and who decides in wind or low tide. Do not assume exclusive use guarantees a custom itinerary.
Is the quote truly for our whole group?

Do we bring our own drinks?
On MiLady, no: the listing says it is a licensed vessel with no BYO alcohol. Other charters differ, so ask before bringing a cooler.
Can we choose a sunset charter instead?

- Is alcohol licensed, BYO or unavailable, and how are special diets handled?
