Your clock starts at the ship, not the marina
Write down four items from your cruise line's current daily programme: when guests may begin going ashore, how tender tickets or queues work, the last tender from shore and the ship's departure. Your usable shore window is set by the cruise line's tender schedule, not by the tour timetable, so get the first and last tender times before you book anything.
Next add the independent operator's check-in requirement, the transfer from the tender landing to its departure berth, the published return time, and a margin for disruption. Cruise Whitsundays says its day cruises leave from the Port of Airlie maritime terminal and asks passengers to be there before departure. A morning Whitehaven cruise from Airlie is described as a half-day experience but the operator's published return is well into the afternoon. Its afternoon departure returns later still. Treat those as operator schedules, not promises that your ship will wait. The reef pontoon and Camira are full-day itineraries. If either exceeds the usable window, rule it out rather than trying to shave check-in or tender time.
Tendering, meeting points and the independent-booking risk
Ask the cruise line exactly where its tenders land on your sailing and how independent passengers obtain tender access. The published town tour meeting point is a different piece of information. An Airlie hotel pickup in a listing should not be treated as pickup from a cruise tender; get the operator to confirm the actual address and whether ship guests can join.

The Cedar Creek listing specifically says it can adapt departures for cruise passengers. That is an operator claim, not a guarantee of your own tender slot. Water levels from August to October may mean a coffee plantation or boutique stop rather than swimming at the falls.

The south-end cruise stops at Daydream and Hamilton before Whitehaven and offers up to two hours on the sand. It does not visit Hill Inlet. Ask the operator which scheduled departure you can make after tendering and whether the return gives enough margin to rejoin the ship. Can I book Ocean Rafting independently from my cruise ship?
The linked Ocean Rafting day-tour listing says its timings do not align with visiting cruise ships. Do not book that regular departure on the assumption it can be shortened. Ask the operator and cruise line about a dedicated shore excursion instead.
Does a half-day Whitehaven cruise leave half the port day free?
No such guarantee follows from the name. Island pickup stops and the round trip mean the Airlie departure can consume most of the usable day. Use the chosen date's actual timetable and your ship's last tender.
Where do I get back on the tender?
Follow your cruise line's port instructions. Do not substitute the operator's Airlie meeting-point address for the ship's tender landing.
